This Sicily villa in Catania-Taormina area, an old Palmento (where at that time Sicilians made the wine) totally restored in typical Sicilian style, spreads on two levels. In the first one (150 sqm),you can find a romantic kitchen facing the outside, nearby a gazebo where you can enjoy your summer meals. The first floor has also a dining room, a bathroom and a very large saloon. On the second floor there are 2 double bedrooms, one suite with ensuite bathrooms, two twin bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. A large terrace, with a stunning view of the ocean, the Italia peninsula and the amazing gulf of Taormina, surrounds this second floor. A huge and greening park it’s the very highlight of this villa. You can find a lot of corners where enjoy your staying: the succulent area, the grass with a lot of colourfull flowers; the pool (20×8 meters !) area immersed in a magic atmosphere; and, most of all, the ancient and fascinating forest of oaks in which you may also find the BBQ area. Piedimonte is a town located between Etna park and Taormina. It’s renowned for have one of the greatest panorama in Sicily, from where one can extend his glance to Taormina, the Italian mainland and almost all the eastern slope of Ionian sea !
This is the reason why many people from all over the world have bought a property in this exclusive and green area.
The house is located at 1 km from the center of Piedimonte, were you can find everything you need.
From Presa (a typical and very small Etna village 3 kms away) you can reach the Etna park (less than 10 km’s).
I suggest you to enjoy Mamma's Etna tour, a familiar-friendly experience that will alloww you to have a complete picture of the highest volcano in Europe.
The beach of Fondachello is at 15 km’s and the most renowned one of Giardini Naxos (photo) at the same distance.
In Giardini you can also enjoy the nice promenade, many restaurants, a vivid local life and the remains of the first Greek setllement of Sicily: Naxos.
Taormina, the pearl of Sicily, is 20 km’s away.
Everything is wonderful in this town: the Corso (main street), the local life, the remains of the Greek theatre (photo), Isola Bella (the beach).
A very renowned fish market is in Riposto, at 20 km’s.Catania is almost 30 kms away.
It is a nice town and I suggest you to park the car in Piazza Alcalà and then have the following walk: outdoor fish-market in Piazza Duomo (photo), via Etnea up to the villa Bellini (and here enjoy the Bar Savia). Along the via Etnea you will admire a gorgeous Baroque style (Unesco's) and the remains of the Roman anphitheatre in Piazza Stesicoro.
Another good tip is the visit of the Alcantara gorges (20 km's away) shaped by the river that has modelled the lava stone determining this fascinating canyon.
For nature lovers I have two suggestions: Monte Scuderi (30 km’s) and, for birdwatchers, Dinnammare (50 km’s) a bottle-neck, I mean one of the few places all over the world where to observe the migration of birds of prey (from April to June).
And now, I give the peen to my wife, the chef Silvana Recupero.
You are in the land of ice creams and granite: have the latter for breakfast (with brioche).
Pasta? Uhmmm ... let me think …: Norma, Vongole, Nero di Seppia, Sarde!
Some other food tip ? Here it is: Arancino (photo), Cipollina, Sicilian salade (tomato, onion, black olives, ricotta salata), involtini alla messinese, swordfish alla griglia.
A good tip is to visit the biggest chestnut in the world, in Sant’Alfio (10 km’s).
