Walking Eraclea Minoa

Overlooking the African sea (the ancient name of this part of Mediterranean sea) here it is the ruins of Eraclea Minoa near the mouth of the river Halycus today called Platani.

Another Siceliota (by Greek of Sicily) town with an amazing panorama.

Eraclea stands in a promontory, above the white beaches of this part of Sicily, and was founded in the 6th century BC.

Eraclea gets its name from the two personages: Hercules (Eraclea) and Minos (Minoa).

Packing great emotional impact is the Greek theater, whose audience would look out to the African Sea leaving the visitor today only to imagine what those viewers were seeing and thinking.

We can still see the ruins of some houses with courtyard (atrium),  shrine (lararium), stucco and cocciopesto decorations, painting in the well preserved walls, kitchen.

In a good state of preservation is also the city wall.

In the site you can also visit a very nice Antiquarium.
