Biviere di Gela lake
Biviere di Gela is the largest coastal lake in Sicily, and one of the main “rest areas” of migratory birds.
From a well equipped visitor center branches several nature trails. One in particular that goes through the reeds, is ideal for bird-watching.
During the year Biviere di Gela is visited by more than 200 species of birds.
Rich is the list of avifauna here: heron, egret, tuft, glossy Ibis (photo, symbol of protected area) …
In the reserve we can also find several species of plants, like the Nella riserva si osservano anche dei prati in cui crescono rosemary, thyme, wild orchidscarob, mastic, dwarf palm trees (photo) and sallow.
